Indonesia

Indonesia became a second home to me during the five years I lived there. I first settled in Solo in Central Java for eighteen months, then spent three years in Jakarta before moving to Bandung for my final months. Over that time, I learned Bahasa Indonesia and was able to immerse myself fully in the country’s culture and daily life. My work and curiosity took me across many islands — from Sumatra and Sulawesi to the Nusa Tenggara islands, Lombok, and, of course, Bali, a place I’ve returned to many times over the years. Indonesia is a country of incredible diversity — of landscapes, traditions, and people — and I was fortunate to meet many wonderful individuals who helped me understand its warmth and complexity. My photographs from this period reflect that sense of connection, colour, and the rhythm of everyday life.
