My first experience of Africa came during Angola’s Civil War — a time that was both dangerous and unforgettable. Travel was limited, yet even within those constraints I was struck by the beauty of the country, particularly around Luanda, where the coastline and beaches were among the most stunning I’ve ever seen. The resilience and warmth of the people left a lasting impression amid the uncertainty. My second encounter with Africa took me to South Africa for a conference in Cape Town — a city of light, colour, and energy. Afterwards, I travelled north to the Pilanesberg region, where I went on my first safari. Seeing wildlife in its natural environment was an extraordinary experience and deepened my appreciation for the continent’s diversity and natural beauty.
