This video captures my recent visit to Latvia. The first few days were spent in Riga along with my UK cousin, Duncan, and his wife, Jane. I then travelled to Preili to meet my Latvian cousin, Einaars, and his wife, Inta. Communication was a little tricky at first. I couldn't speak any Latvian and Einaars struggled with English. Fortunately, Google Translate came to our rescue. As a result, Einaars wrote a song about this experience called Google Translator (using suno ai). I then used canva music video maker to create the video. Šajā video ir iemūžināta mana nesenā vizīte Latvijā. Pirmās dienas pavadīju Rīgā kopā ar manu brālēnu Dankanu no Lielbritānijas un viņa sievu Džeinu. Pēc tam devos uz Preiļiem, lai satiktu savu brālēnu no Latvijas Eināru un viņa sievu Intu. Sākumā komunikācija bija nedaudz sarežģīta. Es nerunāju ne vārda latviski, un Einaram bija grūtības ar angļu valodu. Par laimi, mums talkā nāca Google Translate. Tā rezultātā Einārs uzrakstīja dziesmu par šo pieredzi ar nosaukumu Google Translator (izmantojot Suno AI). Pēc tam es izmantoju Canva mūzikas video veidotāju, lai izveidotu video.

I wanted to create a type of Thomas Hardy storyline with two different characters from different "class" systems but brought together by their creativity and love of music and art. I also wanted to show how we use the word "class" to mean something cool and wonderful. The main musical influence for this song was Fleetwood Mac's Rhiannon.

"It Is What It Is" is a meaningless expression used by so many people nowadays. Despite this, it is quite an effective way to shut down any sort of discussion. All you have to say to justify something (like this song) and shut people up is to say "It Is What It Is".

For many many years we have been singing Flower of Scotland to celebrate many events both inside and outside Scotland. It has become a major anthem. Scottish musicians also like to sing Caledonia, Sunshine On Leith and more traditional songs such as Will Ye Go Lassie Go. I thought it was time to write a new "anthem". Scotlandia is the Bahasa Indonesian word for Scotland. For the music I wanted it to have a gipsy jazz feel to it. The main reference was Django Reinhardt.

It is a song about a refugee who is trying to get away from all the bombings and violence. The song uses both the Ukranian and Russian music scales to create drama and tension. At the end it changes from 4/4 time signature to a 3/4 waltz to signal the possibility of hope for the future. The painting depicts an individual seeking refuge on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland.

This is a whimsical song about Cupboards. I thought a Disney-type video would work well with it. Main influence for this track - Sparks and their inanimate songs - Lawnmower, Iphone, and Escalator.

A simple song based on the Bossa nova and samba sounds of the early 60s. It was written during my time at La Sierra Casa - a songwriting camp based in south-east Spain. The experimental video was produced using Kaiser AI and includes two of my paintings.
